There are so many things to do here - you'll need to stay for weeks!!!

At the house itself, you can swim, play ping pong, go for boat trips on the lake, fish, have a massage, do yoga, visit a cinnamon plantation on an island on the lake, and then just spot plenty of wildlife living nearby... 

Other nearby activities that we can arrange for you include: 

• Taking a trip out in The Lake House boat onto the lake and explore the wide range of wildlife
• Hiring canoes for a paddle on the lake and get up close to the monitor lizards and nooks and crannies of the lake
• Galle Fort exploration and tours
• Whale watching - Sri Lanka is one of the few places to see blue whales November to April
• Visits to the White Tea estate 
• Trips to Merissa beach to eat barbecued fish on the beach at sunset and drink happy hour cocktails
• Visit to Udawalawe or Yala game reserves - elephant, leopard, and many other species
• Trips to Lununganga and Brief, the wonderful gardens of architect Geoffrey Bawa and his brother, Bevis
• Diving and snorkelling - from beginner to expert...
• Surfing - there are plenty of places to surf - or to learn to surf - nearby
• Visit to the Sinharaja rain forest - one of the last virgin rain forests left in the world
• Take bicycles out and explore the paddy fields or cycle around the lake - maybe stopping for delicious lunch en route
• See the stick fisherman - always picturesque and optimistic!
• Watch tens of thousands of Asian swallows gather at dusk while sipping a cool beer (you, not the swallows...)
• Visit other beaches for swimming and surfing - many with cool bars and restaurants
• Visit the local restaurants and cocktail venues nearby - but you won't want to leave our cook!

Greener energy and less plastic

The Lake House is wind and fan cooled and has solar panels to cut down on energy waste.  We use well water for the swimming pool and for irrigating the garden.  All organic material is turned into compost for the garden.  We are doing everything we can to cut down on plastic waste - which is impossible to re-cycle in Sri Lanka.  You won't find plastic water bottles being used here.  Even our used wine-bottles have been re-cycled into a wall!

The Lake House welcomes you for 2024 - there is some availability for New Year 2024/25 and it isn't too early to book for Christmas and New Year  2025/26. Sri Lanka is also lovely from June through to October and this is a time people forget about...
